Alumni Stories

Asmaa Abu Mezied is an alumna of U.S. Government exchange program. She was selected in 2014 to participate in an exchange sponsored by the U.S. Department of State at Michigan University, entitled Economic Empowerment Fellowship. Recently she met with Queen Rania of Jordan on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. World Economic Forum

Twenty two YES alumni visited Basma school for Autistic children in Jerusalem and held outdoor activities with children, including tree planting, face painting, gardening, mural painting and games. Rami Badarna, the school principal, said after at the end of the activity: “We’ve hosted so many different groups of volunteers in our school, but you have shown great organisation and communication skills during this activity. I admire how you dealt with the children and the sensitivity you have shown towards their needs." YES Alumni - West Bank

Through a joint U.S. Consulate and Yes Alumni effort, volunteers were able to collect donations, baby equipment, and toys to give to needy families. YES Alumni collected, packed and delivered the donations through the “Think of Others Organization.” ‪

Mohammad Abu Za'nuneh is a Kennedy Lugar Youth Exchange (YES) and Youth Leaders Rise alumni from Gaza. Recently he was selected to speak at the first YESTalks in Tunisia. Speaking via video conference, he said: “I am very thankful I was able to be part of the #YESTalks. I sincerely love my ‪#‎YES‬ family

Infrastructure

من خلال مشروع مولته الوكالة الامريكية للتنمية الدولية٫ تمكنت مدرسة التقوى للبنين في الخليل من اضافة غرف صفية جديدة تخدم ٣٥٠ طالب. تدعم الوكالة مشاريع في مدارس الضفة الغربية لتحسين البيئة الدراسية للطلاب٫ توفير تدريب للمعلمين وخلق فرص للعمل للعمال المحلين.

Through a USAID project, Al Taqwa boys school in Hebron was able to add additional classrooms benefitting 350 students. USAID supports projects in West Bank schools to improve the learning environment for students, provide teachers training, and generate employment opportunities for local workers.

Technology

الاء فطاير هي احدى خريجات برامجنا المميزات من برنامج تيك وومان 2014 في أمريكا. عندما عادت من امريكا ارادت ان تنظم أول مسابقة Technovation

وهي مسابقة تكنولوجية للفتيات عمرهن ما بين 10-18 عام. ساعدت القنصلية الامريكية ألاء ودعمت جهودها وبالفعل استطاعت ان تنظم اول نسخة فلسطينية لمسابقة Technovation في شهر أيار.

تتضمن هذه المسابقة تحديد مشكلة وتصميم تطبيق لايجاد الحل. شاهدوا احد الفيديوهات التي تظهر الفريق الذي فاز عن طريق تصميم تطبيق WithYou يساعد المرضى.

Technovation Challenge

Alaa’ Fatayer is one of our remarkable alumna of 2014 Techwomen Program in the U.S. Upon her return from America, she wanted to organize the first local technovation competition, a tech competition for girls aged between 10-18. The U.S. Consulate supported Alaa’s efforts and she was able to organize the first ever Palestinian version of technovation in May.
The competition involves identifying a problem and creating an app to solve it. Check out one of the demo videos that shows the winning team pitching their idea of an app WithYou that
helps cancer patients.

في العام 2015، استضافت وزارة الخارجية الامريكية مسابقتها السنوية الخامسة - صندوق دعم ابداع خريجي برامج الولايات المتحدة- التي استمرت من فبراير وحتى مايو. تقدم للمسابقة اكثر من 800 مقترح مشروع من خريجي برامج امريكا من حول العالم ولكن فاز في المسابقة 48 فريق فقط سيحصلون على التمويل لمباشرة العمل على مشاريعهم.

In 2015, the U.S. Department of State hosted its fifth annual Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) project competition from February to May. Supporting Palestinian Innovation

القنصلية الامريكية فعالة جدا في مجال دعم المؤسسات الفلسطينية التي تعمل مع الشباب الفلسطينيين الموهوبين. من خلال برنامج ومسابقة ستيب للريادة في العلوم والتكنولوجيا شاركنا مؤخرا بفعالية عقدتها النيزك حيث عرض الشباب الفلسطيني اختراعاتهم العلمية الابداعية. وفرت منحة ومسابقة ستيب الفرصة لثمانية طلاب فلسطينيين فائزين للسفر الى امريكا والمشاركة بمدرسة ناسا للفضاء.

The U.S. Consulate General is very active in supporting Palestinian institutions that work with talented Palestinian youth. As part of the U.S. Consulate-funded STEP- Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Program, we recently participated in an Al Nayzak ceremony where Palestinian youth presented their innovative scientific innovations. The STEP competition provided an opportunity for eight Palestinian winners to travel to the U.S. and take part in a NASA Space School.

YES Alumni

تعرفوا على احدى خريجات برامجنا المميزات وعد جرادات. في العام 2007، اخترنا وعد للمشاركة ببرنامج الكينيدي لوغار للتبادل الطلابي في ولاية اوريغون في امريكا، وهي الان مصممة برامج حاسوب تعمل في بيت لحم. احد الامور التي اعجبتها حول الشعب الامريكي هي روح التطوع. مؤخرا، تطوعت كمدربة لفريق فتيات طالبات في مدرسة الفريندز في رام الله. شاهدوهم في الصور يقدمون فكرتهم للجنة التحكيم من خلال مشروع تكنوفاشن في رام الله.

Meet one of our distinguished Alumni Waad Jaradat. In 2007, Waad was accepted to participate in the Kenndy Lugar Youth Exchange (YES) in Oregon U.S., and she is currently a software developer working in Bethlehem. One thing she appreciated about Americans was their Volunteerism spirit. Lately she volunteered as a trainer of a team of girls stundets aged 10-18 from the Friends school in Ramallah. See them in the photos pitching their ideas for a panel of judges as part of the technolvation project in Ramallah. ‪

نحن فخورون جدا باحد مرشحينا للالتحاق ببرامج الولايات المتحدة عبد اللطيف حاج ابراهيم من شركة جوال والذي اخترناه مؤخرا للمشاركة في برنامج الزائر الدولي في أمريكا. شاهدوه هنا خلال زيارة قاموا بها لجامعة جورج واشنطن.

We are very proud of one of our alumni, Abdellatif Haj Ibrahim from Jawwal, who was recently selected to participate in the prestigious International Visitor Leadership program (IVLP) in the U.S. Check him out visiting George Washington University in Washington DC.

Access Alumni

مجموعة طلاب الاكسس للغة الانجليزية من الخليل قرروا مؤخرا ان يأخذوا زمام المبادرة ويدافعوا عن الاطفال الذين يجبرون على العمل.
قاموا بتحضير اللافتات واليافطات وحملوها في تقاطع كبير في الخليل، بالاضافة لذلك اطلقوا حوار مع ممثلين من وكالة الاونروا وشاركوا بمقابلة اذاعية على راديو مرح لبناء الوعي حول مخاطر عمل الاطفال. شاهدوهم هنا يحملون اليافطات بفخر.

Our Access Students from Hebron recently decided to take action and advocate on behalf children who are forced into child labor. They created signs and banners and held them on a busy Hebron intersection, they launched a dialogue with representatives from UNRWA, and conducted a radio interview with Radio Marah to build awareness to the dangers of child labor. Check them out holding the banners and standing proudly.

بالتعاون بين جامعة النجاح نابلس والزاوية الامريكية في الجامعة ومديرية التربية والتعليم في نابلس، تم تنظيم ورشة عمل لمحادثة اللغة الانجليزية لموظفي مديرية التربية. شعرت السيدة لورا شيلنبرغ بالسعادة لتسليم شهادات المشاركة للمشاركين الذين انهوا 30 ساعة تدريبية تعلموا خلالها اللهجة الامريكية وطوروا من مهارات المحادثة باللغة الانجليزية لديهم

American Corner Nablus recently partnered with the Palestinian Directorate of Education to conduct an English conversation workshop for the Department’s staff. Miss Laura Shelinburg was very pleased to hand out certificates to participants who finished 30 training hours learning American English and improving their English conversation skills.
