Consul General Ratney joined members of the Palestinian-American Chamber of Commerce on a trip to D.C., Chicago, and Minneapolis this week. In these cities, the Palestinian businessmen spoke with American civic, business, and political leaders as well as the press about the opportunities for investment and job creation in the West Bank, Gaza, and Jerusalem. Here, the group visited the Chicago Tribune, where the business leaders spoke with the newspaper about the challenges and opportunities they face

كجزء من التعهد الذي أطلقه وزير الخارجية الأمريكي جون كيري في مؤتمر المانحين لاعادة اعمار قطاع غزة والذي عقد في شهر تشرين أول/أكتوبر 2014 في القاهرة، أعلنت القنصلية الأمريكية العامة في القدس، وبعثة الوكالة الأمريكية للتنمية الدولية (USAID) في الضفة الغربية وقطاع غزة، عن تقديم منحة قدرها 10 ملايين دولار أمريكي لبرنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي (UNDP) لإزالة الركام في قطاع غزة

To fulfill part of the pledge made by Secretary of State John Kerry at the October 2014 Gaza Donors Conference in Cairo, the American Consulate General in Jerusalem and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) West Bank and Gaza Mission announced the donation of $10 million to the United Nations Development Programme for the removal of rubble in Gaza.

يوم الاربعاء زار اعضاء المكتب الاعلامي في القنصلية الامريكية العامة في القدس بيتر غالوس وناصر ادعيس وفادي أديب جامعة النجاح في نابلس للمشاركة بورشة عمل بعنوان "التغطية الاعلامية في العصر الالكتروني" . حضر اللقاء مجموعة من ثلاثين صحفي من مدينة نابلس حيث تركز الحوار حول عمل المكتب الاعلامي في القنصلية الامريكية للتواصل مع الجمهور الفلسطيني من خلال وسائل الاعلام، ومواقع التواصل الاجتماعي والاعلام الالكتروني وعن اخلاقيات ومبادىْ مهنة الصحافة في أمريكا. نظم اللقاء الزاوية الامريكية في نابلس بالتعاون مع مكتب العلاقات العامة في جامعة النجاح بهدف بناء قدرات الطلاب والتفاعل مع الصحفيين في نابلس.

On Wednesday, members of the U.S. Consulate General press team Peter Galus, Naser Ideis and Fadi Adeeb paid a visit to Nablus’ Al Najah University to conduct a workshop entitled “New Media in the digital age.” A group of 30 jouranlists from Nablus attended the event which focused on the work of the Consulate General’s press office to communicate with the Palestinian public through traditional, social and electronic media, and on the ethics and values of news reporting in America. Al Najah university’s American corner organized the event in cooperation with the univerity’s PR office aiming to build the capacity of students and professionals in Nablus

Supporting Local Schools دعم المدارس المحلية

بالتزامن مع افتتاح الوكالة الامريكية للتنمية الدولية لمدرسة الذكور الابتدائية التي انشأت حديثا في بيت كاحل في محافظة الخليل قمنا بالتبرع بمجموعة من الكتب والرفوف لتأثيث مكتبة المدرسة الجديدة. تالف التبرع من 1000 كتاب من المجموعة البحثية " م...كتبتي العربية" للصفوف من الاول الى السادس وكذلك مجموعة من المطبوعات باللغة العربية والانجليزية حول مجموعة من المواضيع حول أمريكا، والعلوم والجغرافيا والتاريخ والادب. ستكون الكتب متوفرة للاستخدام من قبل 220 طالب في مدرسة بيت كاحل للذكور وللمجتمع المحلي. هذا التبرع من الكتب لمدرسة في بيت كاحل هو الاول في سلسلة من التبرعات التي سنوفرها خلال الاسابيع القادمة للمدارس والمكتبات المحلية والمؤسسات في الضفة الغربية لدعم القراءة وحب التعلم.

In conjunction with USAID’s inauguration of the newly constructed Beit Kahil Elementary Boys’ School in the Hebron Governorate, we contributed a collection of books and bookshelves to supplement the new school’s library. The book donation of over 1000 books consisted of Scholastic’s “My Arabic Library” for grades 1-6, as well as publications in Arabic and English on a variety of topics related to the United States, science, geography, history, and literature. The books will be available for use by the 220 students of the Beit Kahil Boys’ School and other members of the community. The donation of the book set to the school in Beit Kahil is the first of a series that we will be providing in the coming weeks to schools, local libraries, and organizations in the West Bank to promote literacy and a love of learning

برامج تعليم المحادثة باللغة الانجليزية التي ننظمها في البيت الامريكي في القدس ورام الله تتوسع. نحن ايضا ننظم برامج محادثة انجليزية مع طلاب من غزة من خلال الفيديو كونفرنس

Our America House English conversation classes in Ramallah and Jerusalem are expanding! We are also doing these sessions with students from Gaza via DVC.

Check out this photo from a class in Jerusalem: U.S. Consulate General’s Political Officer Loren Murad, began a weekly series of English conversation hours via DVC with students from Al Azhar University in Gaza through our American Corner. More than 25 students attended the session.

من ضمن جهودنا لتطوير فعالياتنا الخاصة بتعليم اللغة الانجليزية في الاراضي الفلسطينية استضافت القنصلية الامريكية المسؤولة الاقليمية من وزارة الخارجية لتدريس اللغة الانجليزية دنيس لاوري والتي تعمل من عمان. استمرت جولة لاوري 4 ايام تضمنت لقاءات مع العديد من ممثلي المؤسسات التعليمية. التقت لاوري ايضا بمسؤولين من جامعة بيت لحم والخليل والنجاح. وكانت المحطة الاخيرة مشاركتها باحتفال عيد الشكر مع اكثر من 150 طالب. شاهدوا الصور واعملوا شير مع اصدقائكم.

As part of our efforts to develop our English language-based activities in the Palestinian Territories, the U.S. Consulate hosted Regional English Language Officer Denise Lowery, who is based in Amman, for four intensive days of programs, including meetings and visits at a wide range of educational institutions. Lowery also had meetings at Bethlehem University, Hebron University and Najah University. The final event on the RELO’s schedule was a Thanksgiving celebration with more than 150 students attending. Supporting Journalists

من خلال جهودنا لدعم الاعلام المستقل، قام شركاء القنصلية الامريكية وهم مؤسسة ميديا بلاس بالتعاون مع راديو 2000 في بيت لحم بتنظيم تدريب مكثف حول البرامج الاذاعية لستة طلاب اعلام من كلية بارد في جامعة القدس للفن والعلوم. تعلم الطلاب المكونات التقنية للتقارير الاذاعية للراديو وكيف يصيغون قصة مبنية على الحقائق حول قضايا هامة.

As part of our efforts to support independent media, the U.S. Consulate General partner MediaPlus in cooperation with Radio Bethlehem 2000 completed an intensive training course on radio reporting for six journalism students from Al Quds Bard College for Arts and Sciences. The students learned the technical components of reporting for radio, as well as how to tell a compelling, factual story about difficult issues

Thanksgiving

زار القنصل العام مايكل راتني جامعة بيت لحم اليوم لاحياء احتفال عيد الشكر مع طلاب فلسطينيين من برنامج الاكسس للغة الانجليزية من منطقة الخليل وبيت لحم. قبل ان يجلسوا معا على مائدة غداء عيد الشكر، حضرتها كلية الفندقة والسياحة في الجامعة، نظم الطلاب مجموعة من الفعاليات لتسليط الضوء على تاريخ واهمية عيد الشكر. صنع الطلاب شجرة عيد الشكر يستطيع ان يعلق عليها الحضور قصاصات من الورق يكتبون عليها ما هو الشيء الذي يجعلهم شاكرين.

Consul General Michael Ratney visited Bethlehem University today to celebrate Thanksgiving with young Palestinian English Access students from Bethlehem and Hebron. Before enjoying a Thanksgiving lunch that was prepared by the University’s Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism, the students organized a number of activities to highlight the history and importance of Thanksgiving. The Access students created a “Thanksgiving tree” on which attendees could hang pieces of paper that said what they are thankful for

هل تعتبر نفسك قائد فلسطيني في المستقبل؟ هل أنت مهتم في دراسته في جامعة أميركية معتمدة في الشرق الأوسط؟ قادة الغد هو مبادرة ممولة من ميبي التي توفر لخريجي المدارس الثانوية الموهوبين أكاديميا ولكن المحرومين ماليا مع المنح الدراسية لبرامج درجة البكالوريوس لمدة أربع سنوات في واحدة من الثلاثة المختارة جامعات أميركية معتمدة في المنطقة: الجامعة الأمريكية في القاهرة (AUC)، الجامعة اللبنانية الأميركية (LAU)، الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت (AUB). المتلقين تتلقى درجة البكالوريوس والتدريب القائم على التربية المدنية متخصص لتشمل فصل دراسي في الخارج في الولايات المتحدة، فضلا عن فرص التدريب مع الجمهور المحلي، والمجتمع المدني، أو مؤسسات القطاع الخاص. تغطي المنحة الرسوم الجامعية لمدة اربع سنوات في الجامعة في الاتحاد الافريقي ، الجامعة الأمريكية بالقاهرة، الدراسة في الخارج في الولايات المتحدة، ونفقات السفر والحوادث والمرض التأمين والسكن وراتب شهري. نحن نقبل الآن طلبات الحالية من طلاب المدرسة الثانوية أو أولئك الذين تخرجوا من المدرسة الثانوية في عام 2014، ستبدأ الجامعة في الخريف من العام ٢٠١٥ . على المتقدمين أن يكون على مستوى قوي للغة الإنجليزية. ويمكن الاطلاع على جميع المعلومات هنا

Tomorrow’s Leaders is a MEPI-funded initiative that provides academically talented but financially disadvantaged high school graduates with scholarships to four-year undergraduate degree programs at one of three selected U.S.-accredited universities in the region. We are now accepting applications from current seniors in high school or those who graduated from high school in 2014, who would begin university in Fall 2015. Applicants need to have a strong level of English.
